The Registered Nurse (RN) is instrumental in the care provided to Yellowstone Plastic Surgery. From the initial consultation through the patient’s final visit, the nurse provides patient education, fields phone calls, assists with procedures, and provides the necessary care to ensure the patient’s needs are met in the office, pre/post-operative setting, and the operating room. The RN is the patient advocate and assures that quality care is administered.
JOB DUTIES
- OFFICE (Medical)
- Rooms patients for initial consultations and follow-up appointments obtaining patient medical history and medications taken. Alerts the physician to potential areas of concern including smoking, BMI, medication, significant health history, etc.
- Assists the physician in seeing office patients by maintaining patient flow and performing nursing duties such as removal & application of dressings, removal of sutures/staples, filling of tissue expanders, wound VAC changes, and implant sizing.
- Photographs the patient pre- and post-operatively. Maintains patient photos for education.
- Answers patient inquiries by phone as well as performing pre-op phone calls.
- Accurately charts patient visits and phone calls.
- Provides educational and informational material patients. Revises and updates educational information as appropriate.
- Restocks and cleans exam rooms per schedule.
- Assists the providers with minor procedures including specimen collection.
- Attends staff meetings and educational opportunities.
- Maintains annual education, professional license, facility privileges, OSHA requirements, and other certifications.
- Performs other duties as needed including having ownership over more detailed tasks – i.e. Safety Officer, AAAA, patient photos, patient education, medication ordering, implant ordering, etc.
- Monitors equipment and ensures it is maintained as needed. Researches new supplies and equipment maintaining a cost-conscious awareness.
- PRE/POST OPERATIVE CARE
- Provides care for the Premier Outpatient Surgery (POS) patient in the pre-operative setting including starting the IV, assessing patient, obtaining vital signs, performing relevant point of care testing, administering medication, and patient education.
- Assists the Operating Room RN as needed paying special attention to being available at the start/end of cases and those cases with extra needs (positioning, specimens).
- Provides care for the POS patient in the post-operative setting including assessing the patient, obtaining vital signs, monitoring surgical sites & drains, performing relevant point of care testing, administering medication, and patient education.
- Cleans and stocks recovery rooms per schedule.
- Cleans and maintains supply closet, fridge, and warmer in PACU.
- Maintains a constant state of readiness for Quad A.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
This position requires an active nursing license in the state of Montana and maintain all required licensure and renewal standards. A minimum of two years of nursing experience is required, with preference given to candidates who have experience in a clinical setting, pre- and post-operative care, and the operating room. Applicants must have successfully completed a Basic CPR course and be able to obtain ACLS certification within six months of hire.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; however, an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) that meets Montana state licensure requirements will be considered. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to make sound clinical decisions, communicate effectively, and provide compassionate, patient-centered care. A high level of professionalism, strong bedside manner, and competency in medication administration are required. Candidates should be dependable, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a collaborative, team-oriented approach. Proficiency in basic computer systems is also expected.
Physical Requirements: This role requires the ability to perform light lifting (up to 20 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds) and engage in a range of physical activities including standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, and repetitive tasks such as typing. Occasional activities include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, filing, and driving, with potential exposure to varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, dust, vapors, fumes, noise, and odors. Continuous communication and auditory engagement are essential to effectively perform job duties.
COMPENSATION
$39.00 - $41.00 DOQ plus benefits.
